UDavide wafika kuSawule, wema phambi kwakhe; wamthanda kakhulu, waba ludibi lwezikhali zakhe. USawule wathumela kuJese, wathi: “Akeme phambi kwami uDavide, ngokuba ufumene umusa emehlweni ami.” Kwathi nxa umoya owavela kuNkulunkulu emehlela uSawule, uDavide wathatha ihabhu,* walibetha ngesandla sakhe; wayesekhululeka uSawule, waba ngcono, umoya omubi wamuka kuye.

Injabulo kaSawule ngoDavide yashabalala ngokushesha lapho uDavide eba namandla nodumo. Mhlawumbe kokunye kokulandisa kweBhayibheli okwaziwayo kakhulu, uDavide wabulala umdondoshiya uGoliyati. AmaFilisti ayelwa nama-Israyeli futhi eklolodela amabutho akwa-Israyeli ngeqhawe lawo, uGoliyati waseGati. Bahlongoza ukuba kube nokubili phakathi kukaGoliyati nanoma ubani owayezolwa naye. Kodwa akekho kwa-Israyeli owazinikela ekulweni nomdondoshiya. Abafowabo bakaDavide abadala babeyingxenye yebutho likaSawule; Ngemva kokuba uGoliyati edelele ama-Israyeli izinsuku ezingamashumi amane, uDavide wavakashela abafowabo empini futhi wezwa ukuzigabisa komFilisti. Insizwa engumalusi yabuza: “Kuzokwenziwani ngomuntu obulala lo mFilisti futhi asuse leli hlazo kwa-Israyeli na? Ungubani lomFilisti ongasokile ukuba adelele amabutho kaNkulunkulu ophilayo?”

1 Samuweli 17:26 

UDavide wakhuluma kubantu ababemi naye, wathi: “Kuyakwenziwa ntoni kumuntu obulala lowo mFilisti, asuse ihlazo kwa-Israyeli, na? Ngokuba ngubani lowo mFilisti ongasokile ukuba ayeyise impi kaNkulunkulu ophilayo na?”

Umfowabo kaDavida omdala wathukuthela wasola uDavida ngokuzigqaja kokuthi uze ukuzobukela impi kuphela. Kodwa uDavide waqhubeka ekhuluma ngale ndaba.

USawuli wezwa amazwi kaDavida, wathumela ukuthi abizwe. UDavide watshela uSawule, “Makungabikho noyedwa ophelelwa yinhliziyo ngenxa yalo mFilisti; inceku yakho iyakuhamba iyokulwa naye.” 

1 Samuweli 17:32 

UDavide wayesethi kuSawule: “Makungaqedwa nhliziyo yamuntu ngalowo; inceku yakho iyakuhamba ilwe nalowo mFilisti.” USawule wathi kuDavide: “Awunamandla okuya kulowo mFilisti, ulwe naye, ngokuba ungumfana nje, yena eyindoda yempi kwasebusheni bakhe.” UDavide wathi kuSawule: “Inceku yakho yayizalusa izimvu zikayise; lapho kwafika ingonyama nebhere* kwathatha imvu emhlambini, ngaphuma ngakulandela, ngakubulala, ngayophula emlonyeni wakho; lapho kwangivukela, ngakubamba ngesilevu, ngakwahlula, ngakubulala. Inceku yakho yahlula ingonyama nebhere,* nalowo mFilisti ongasokile uyakuba njengenye yazo, lokhu eyeyisile impi kaNkulunkulu ophilayo.” UDavide wathi: “UJehova owangophula ozisheni lwengonyama nasozisheni lwebhere* uyakungophula nasesandleni salowo mFilisti.” USawule wathi kuDavide: “Hamba, uJehova uyakuba nawe.”

UDavide watshela uSawule, “Makungaphelelwa yinhliziyo ngenxa yalo mFilisti. USawuli wayengakholwa; UDavide wayengelona isosha eliqeqeshiwe. UDavide wanikeza izimfanelo zakhe njengomalusi, eqikelela ukuthi unika uNkulunkulu inkazimulo. UDavide wayebulale amabhubesi namabhere ayelandela izimvu zakhe, futhi wathi umFilisti wayeyokufa njengazo ngoba “wayedelele amabutho kaNkulunkulu ophilayo. UJehova owangikhulula esandleni sengonyama nasesidladleni sebhere uyongikhulula esandleni salo mFilisti.”

1 Samuweli 17:36-37 

Inceku yakho yahlula ingonyama nebhere,* nalowo mFilisti ongasokile uyakuba njengenye yazo, lokhu eyeyisile impi kaNkulunkulu ophilayo.” UDavide wathi: “UJehova owangophula ozisheni lwengonyama nasozisheni lwebhere* uyakungophula nasesandleni salowo mFilisti.” USawule wathi kuDavide: “Hamba, uJehova uyakuba nawe.” Lapho uSawule embona uDavide ephuma ukuhlangabezana nomFilisti, wathi ku-Abineri induna yempi: “Abineri, yindodana kabani lo mfana na?” U-Abineri wathi: “Kuphila kwakho, nkosi, angazi.”

USawule wavuma, inqobo nje uma uDavide egqoka izikhali zikaSawule empini. Kodwa uDavida wayengazijwayeli izikhali wazitshiya. UDavide wahamba nodondolo lwakhe kuphela, namatshe abushelelezi amahlanu, nesaka lakhe lomalusi, nendwayimana. UGoliyati akazange esabe ngenxa kaDavide, noDavide akazange esatshiswe umdondoshiya. “UDavide wathi kumFilisti: ‘Wena uza kimi nenkemba nomkhonto nomkhonto, kodwa mina ngiza kuwe ngegama likaJehova Sebawoti, uNkulunkulu wamabutho akwa-Israyeli omdelele. Namuhla uJehova uyakukunikela esandleni sami.

1 Samuweli 17:45-46 

UDavide wayesethi kumFilisti: “Wena uza kimi nenkemba, nomkhonto, nengcula, kepha mina ngiza kuwe ngegama likaJehova Sebawoti, uNkulunkulu wempi ka-Israyeli oyeyisile. Namuhla uJehova uyakukunikela esandleni sami; ngiyakukubulala, ngisuse ikhanda lakho kuwe, nginike namuhla izinyoni zezulu nezilwane zomhlaba izidumbu zempi yamaFilisti, ukuze umhlaba wonke wazi ukuthi kukhona uNkulunkulu kwa-Israyeli,

Ukuthembela kukaDavide kuNkulunkulu nentshiseko yakhe ngenkazimulo kaNkulunkulu kuyamangalisa. UDavide wambulala ngempela uGoliyati. Wangenela futhi inkonzo kaSawule isikhathi esigcwele, engasazilusi izimvu zikayise.

Ngisenalungelo lini ukuba ngibuye ngikhale enkosini na?” Inkosi yathi kuye: “Usakhulumelani ngezindaba zakho na? Ngithi: Wena noSiba, yahlukaniselani izwe.” Wayesethi uMefibosheti enkosini: “Makathathe konke, njengokuba inkosi yami, inkosi, isibuyele endlini yayo ngokuthula.”

Wathi kubantu bakhe: “Makube kude nami, Jehova, ukuba ngenze okunjalo kuyo inkosi yami, ogcotshiweyo kaJehova, ngelulele isandla sami kuye, lokhu engogcotshiweyo kaJehova.” UDavide wabathiya ngalawo mazwi, akabavumelanga ukuba bamvukele uSawule. USawule wasuka emhumeni, wahamba.

Lapho ebheka emuva, wangibona, wangibiza. Ngaphendula ngokuthi: ‘Ngilapha.’ “Wathi kimi: ‘Wena ungubani na?’ Ngathi kuye: ‘NgingumAmaleki.’ “Wathi kimi: ‘Ake ume ngakimi, ungibulale, ngokuba ngishaywe yisiyezi, nokuphila kusekhona kimi.’ “Ngase ngima ngakuye, ngambulala, ngokuba ngakwazi ukuthi angephile esewile, ngathatha umqhele owawusekhanda lakhe, nesongo elalisengalweni yakhe, ngikulethile lapha enkosini yami.” UDavide wayesebamba izingubo zakhe, waziklebhula kanye nawo onke amadoda ayenaye. Balila, bakhala, bazila ukudla kwaze kwahlwa ngenxa kaSawule, noJonathani indodana yakhe, nabantu bakaJehova, nendlu ka-Israyeli, ngokuba bebewile ngenkemba. Wathi uDavide kuyo insizwa eyayimtshelile: “Ungowaphi na?” Wathi: “Ngiyindodana yomuntu ogogobele nje, umAmaleki.” UDavide wathi kuyo: “Yini ukuba ungesabanga ukwelula isandla sakho, ubhubhise ogcotshiweyo kaJehova, na?” UDavide wayesebiza enye yezinsizwa, wathi: “Sondela, umsukele.” Yamshaya waze wafa. UDavide wathi kuye: “Igazi lakho malibe phezu kwekhanda lakho, ngokuba umlomo wakho ufakazile ngawe, lapho uthi: ‘Ngibulele ogcotshiweyo kaJehova.’ ”

Kwabikwa kuDavide ukuthi: “Bheka, amaFilisti ayalwa neKeyila, aphanga izibuya.” Ngalokho uDavide wabuza kuJehova, wathi: “Ngiye ngibulale lawo maFilisti na?” UJehova wathi kuDavide: “Hamba uwabulale amaFilisti, usindise iKeyila.” Abantu bakaDavide bathi kuye: “Bheka, siyesaba lapha kwaJuda; kakhulu kangakanani, uma siya eKeyila, silwe nezimpi zamaFilisti na?” UDavide waphinda wabuza kuJehova. UJehova wamphendula wathi: “Suka wehlele eKeyila, ngokuba ngiyakunikela amaFilisti esandleni sakho.” UDavide nabantu bakhe baya eKeyila, balwa namaFilisti, bathumba izinkomo zawo, bawaceka ngokuceka okukhulu. Wayesebasindisa uDavide abaseKeyila. Kwathi lapho u-Abiyathara indodana ka-Ahimeleki ebaleka eya kuDavide eKeyila, wehla, ingubo yamahlombe isesandleni sakhe. Kwabikwa kuSawule ukuthi uDavide ufikile eKeyila. Wayesethi uSawule: “UNkulunkulu umkhaphele esandleni sami, ngokuba uzivalele ngokungena emzini onamasango nemigoqo.” USawule wabiza abantu bonke, baye empini, behlele eKeyila, bavimbezele uDavide nabantu bakhe. UDavide wazi ukuthi uSawule uceba okubi ngaye; wathi ku-Abiyathara umpristi: “Letha ingubo yamahlombe.” Wayesethi uDavide: “Jehova Nkulunkulu ka-Israyeli, inceku yakho izwile nokuzwa ukuthi uSawule ufuna ukuza eKeyila ukuba achithe umuzi ngenxa yami. Abantu baseKeyila bayakungikhaphela yini esandleni sakhe na? USawule uyakwehla njengalokho inceku yakho izwile na? Jehova Nkulunkulu ka-Israyeli, ake uyitshele inceku yakho.” Wathi uJehova: “Uyakwehla.” Wayesethi uDavide: “Abantu baseKeyila bayakungikhaphela mina nabantu bami esandleni sikaSawule na?” Wathi uJehova: “Bayakukukhaphela.” Wayesesuka uDavide nabantu bakhe kungathi abangamakhulu ayisithupha, baphuma eKeyila, bahamba lapho bebenokuhamba khona. Kwabikwa kuSawule ukuthi uDavide ubalekile eKeyila; wayeseyeka ukuphuma. UDavide wahlala ehlane ezinqabeni, wahlala ezintabeni ezisehlane laseZifi. USawule wamfuna zonke izinsuku, kepha uNkulunkulu akamnikelanga esandleni sakhe. UDavide wabona ukuthi uSawule uphumele ukufuna ukuphila kwakhe; uDavide wayesehlane laseZifi eHoreshi. Kwasuka uJonathani indodana kaSawule, waya kuDavide eHoreshi, waqinisa isandla sakhe kuNkulunkulu. Wathi kuye: “Ungesabi, ngokuba isandla sikaSawule ubaba asiyikukufumana; wena uyakuba yinkosi phezu kuka-Israyeli, mina ngikwelame; noSawule ubaba uyakwazi lokho.” Benza isivumelwano bobabili phambi kukaJehova; uDavide wahlala eHoreshi, uJonathani waya endlini yakhe.

AmaFilisti abuye enyuka, ahlakazeka esiGodini samaRefa. Lapho uDavide ebuza kuJehova, wathi yena: “Awuyikwenyuka; gwegwesa emva kwawo, uwafikele malungana namajikijolo. Kuyakuthi lapho usuzwa umsindo wokuhamba ezihlokweni zamajikijolo, usheshe, ngokuba kuyilapho uJehova eyakube ephumile ngaphambi kwakho ukuchitha impi yamaFilisti.” UDavide wenze njalo njengalokho uJehova emyalile, wachitha amaFilisti kusukela eGeba kuze kufike eGezeri.

Lapho eseyinkosi, uDavide waqhubeka eyinduna yezempi nesosha elinamandla.  USamuweli Wesibili 23 ulandisa ngezinye zezenzo zikaDavide ezibizwa “ngamadoda anamandla.” UNkulunkulu wahlonipha futhi wavuza ukulalela kukaDavide futhi wamnika impumelelo kukho konke akwenzayo

U-Abigayili washesha wasuka, wakhwela imbongolo kanye nezintombi zakhe ezazihamba naye; wazilandela izithunywa zikaDavide, waba ngumkakhe. UDavide wathatha no-Ahinohama waseJizreyeli; baba ngomkakhe bobabili. Kepha uSawule wayesemnike uPaliti indodana kaLayishi waseGalimi uMikhali indodakazi yakhe.

Ngemva kokufa kukaSawule uDavide wagcotshwa obala waba yinkosi phezu kwendlu yakwaJuda (2 Samuweli 2:4), futhi wabe esedingeka alwe nendlu kaSawule ngaphambi kokuba agcotshwe njengenkosi phezu kuka-Israyeli wonke eneminyaka engamashumi amathathu (2 Samuweli 5:3–4). Manje inkosi, uDavide wathatha uMikhali wambuyisela ukuba abe umkakhe futhi (2 Samuweli 3:14). UDavide walinqoba iJerusalema, walithatha kumaJebusi, waba namandla kakhulu ngokuba uJehova Sebawoti wayenaye (2 Samuweli 5:7).

Umphongolo wesivumelwano wawukade uthathwe ngamaFilisti (1 Samuweli 4). Ekubuyeleni kwawo kwa-Israyeli, umphongolo wabekwa eKiriyati Jeharimi (1 Samuweli 7:1). UDavide wayefuna ukubuyisela umphongolo eJerusalema. Kodwa uDavide wayeka ezinye zeziqondiso zikaNkulunkulu zendlela yokuthutha umphongolo nokuthi ubani owayezowuthwala. Lokhu kwaphumela ekufeni kuka-Uza owathi, phakathi nayo yonke imikhosi, welula isandla sakhe ukuze aqinise umphongolo. UNkulunkulu wamshaya u-Uza, futhi wafela lapho eceleni komphongolo ( 2 Samuweli 6:1–7 ). Ngokwesaba uJehova, uDavide wakuyeka ukususwa komphongolo, wawubeka endlini ka-Obede Edomi (2 Samuweli 6:11).

Ngemva kwezinyanga ezintathu, uDavide walivuselela icebo lokuletha umphongolo eJerusalema. Kulokhu, walandela iziqondiso. Futhi “wasina [phambi kukaJehova] ngamandla akhe onke” ( 2 Samuweli 6:14 ). Lapho uMikhali ebona uDavide ekhulekela ngaleyo ndlela, “wameyisa enhliziyweni yakhe.”— 2 Samuweli 6:16 . Wabuza uDavide ukuthi, njengenkosi, wayengenza kanjani ngendlela engabonakali kangaka phambi kwabantu bakubo. “UDavide wathi kuMikhali: “Kuphambi kukaJehova owangikhetha esikhundleni sikayihlo nanoma yimuphi umuntu wendlu yakhe lapho engibeka ukuba ngibe ngumbusi phezu kwabantu bakaJehova u-Israyeli—ngiyojabula phambi kukaJehova, ngibe yisithunzi ngaphezu kwalokhu, futhi ngizolulazeka emehlweni ami.”—2 Samuweli 6:21-22. UDavide wayeqonda ukuthi ukukhulekela kweqiniso kuhloselwe uNkulunkulu kuphela. Asikhulekeli ngenjongo yokuzuza imibono yabanye kodwa ngokusabela ngokuzithoba kuNkulunkulu (Johane 4:24).

Ngemva kokuba uDavide ezinzile esigodlweni sakhe futhi waba nokuthula nezitha zakhe, wayefuna ukwakhela iNkosi ithempeli ( 2 Samuweli 7:1–2 ). Umprofethi uNathani waqala watshela uDavide ukuba enze njengoba nje ethanda. Kodwa uNkulunkulu wabe esetshela uNathani ukuthi uDavide wayengeke akhe ithempeli laKhe. Kunalokho, uNkulunkulu wathembisa ukwakhela uDavide indlu. Lesi sithembiso sasihlanganisa nesibikezelo sokuthi uSolomoni uzokwakha ithempeli. Kodwa futhi yakhuluma ngoMesiya ozayo, iNdodana kaDavide eyayiyobusa phakade ( 2 Samuweli 7:4–17 ). UDavide wasabela ngokuzithoba nangokuthuthumela: “Ngingubani mina, Nkosi EnguMbusi, futhi uyini umndeni wami, ukuba ungilethe kuze kube manje na? USolomoni wayezokwakha ithempeli (1 IziKronike 22).

Igazi elikhulu likaDavide laliwumphumela wempi. Kodwa, esenzakalweni esibi, uDavide wabulala nenye yamadoda akhe anamandla. Nakuba uDavide ayengumuntu olandela inhliziyo kaNkulunkulu, wayengumuntu futhi enesono. Lapho amabutho akhe esempini ngenye intwasahlobo, uDavide wahlala ekhaya. Esophahleni lwakhe wabona owesifazane omuhle egeza. Wathola ukuthi wayenguBati Sheba umka-Uriya umHeti, omunye wamaqhawe akhe asempini, uDavide wathuma izithunywa kuye. UDavide walala noBati Sheba, wakhulelwa. UDavide wabiza u-Uriya ukuthi abuye empini, ethemba ukuthi uzolala nomkakhe futhi akholwe ukuthi umntwana ungowakhe, kodwa u-Uriya wenqaba ukuya ekhaya ngesikhathi ozakwabo besempini. Ngakho uDavide wahlela ukuba u-Uriya abulawe empini. UDavide wabe eseshada noBati Sheba (2 Samuweli 11). Lesi senzakalo empilweni kaDavide sisibonisa ukuthi wonke umuntu, ngisho nalabo esibazisa kakhulu, ulwa nesono. Isebenza futhi njengesexwayiso senganekwane mayelana nesilingo kanye nendlela isono esinganda ngayo ngokushesha.

Umprofethi uNathani wabuza uDavide ngesono sakhe noBhati Sheba. UDavide wasabela ngokuphenduka. Ubhale iHubo 51 ngalesi sikhathi. Lapha sibona ukuthobeka kukaDavide nenhliziyo yakhe yeqiniso eNkosini. Nakuba uNathani atshela uDavide ukuthi indodana yakhe yayizokufa ngenxa yesono sakhe, uDavide wamncenga uJehova ukuba asindise indodana yakhe. Ubuhlobo bukaDavide noNkulunkulu babunjalo kangangokuthi wayezimisele ukuphikelela okholweni nokuba nethemba lokuthi uNkulunkulu angase aguquke. Lapho uNkulunkulu ekhipha isahlulelo Sakhe, uDavide wasamukela ngokuphelele (2 Samuweli 12). Kule ndaba sibona futhi umusa nobukhosi bukaNkulunkulu. USolomoni, indodana kaDavide eyamlandela futhi uJesu aphuma ngayo, wazalwa uDavide noBati Sheba.

UNkulunkulu wayemtshelile futhi uDavide, ngoNathani, ukuthi inkemba yayingayikusuka endlini yakhe. Ngempela, indlu kaDavide yaba nezinkinga eziningi kusukela ngaleso sikhathi kuqhubeke. Lokhu sikubona kubantwana bakaDavide lapho u-Amnoni edlwengula uTamari, okwaholela ekubulaweni kuka-Amnoni kuka-Absalomu, nozungu luka-Absalomu ngoDavide. UNathani wayemtshelile uDavide ukuthi abafazi bakhe babeyonikelwa kosondelene naye; lokhu kwakungeke kwenzeke ekusithekeni njengoba kwenzeka isono sikaDavide noBati Sheba, kodwa esidlangalaleni. Isiprofetho sagcwaliseka lapho u-Absalomu elala nezancinza zikayise phezu kophahla ukuze zibonwe yibo bonke (2 Samuweli 16).

UDavide ungumlobi wamahubo amaningi. Kuzo sibona indlela ayeyifuna futhi akhazimulisa ngayo uNkulunkulu. Uvame ukubhekwa njengenkosi engumalusi nembongi eyiqhawe. UmBhalo umbiza ngokuthi “umhubi omnandi wakwa-Israyeli” (2 Samuweli 23:1). Ukuphila kukaDavide kwabonakala kugcwele imizwelo yomuntu ehlukahlukene—umfana ongumalusi ovamile othembele kakhulu ekuthembekeni kukaNkulunkulu owayehlonipha amagunya, wabaleka ukuze asindise ukuphila kwakhe, futhi waba inkosi okwakuyolinganiswa ngayo wonke amakhosi azayo akwaIsrayeli. Wabona ukunqoba okuningi kwezempi. Wawela esonweni esibi kakhulu, futhi umkhaya wakhe wahlupheka ngenxa yalokho. Kodwa kukho konke uDavida waphendukela kuNkulunkulu futhi wamethemba. Ngisho nakumaHubo lapho uDavide edangele noma edangele, simbona ephakamisela amehlo akhe kuMenzi wakhe futhi amdumise. Lokhu kwethembela kuNkulunkulu nokuphishekela ubuhlobo obuqhubekayo noNkulunkulu kuyingxenye yalokho okwenza uDavide abe indoda ethandwa yinhliziyo kaNkulunkulu.

UNkulunkulu wathembisa uDavida inzalo eyayizabusa esihlalweni sobukhosi kuze kube nininini. Leyo nkosi yaphakade nguJesu, uMesiya neNdodana kaDavide.
